Cleo Frequently Asked Questions
For Cleo Client Brands
-
We have two models.
One is the rewards only model where we work with you or your marketing agency to select the right reward for the action. This can be tailored to top, middle or bottom of the funnel activities. The per user reward value goes from as low as 65c.
The second model is a turn-key lead generation solution, where you provide the content/asset, and we (at our cost) generate the user interaction and provide the targeted lead. This lead comes with ‘the good’ embedded and is a way for us to generate a high quality lead for your pipeline.
-
We start our campaigns at $10k, but we don’t specify a time frame. So this could be for a single campaign or a year long always-on value add.
-
We have over 150+ media partners connected into our Cleo lead generation engine, as well as our own database. You provide us with the content/asset and budget, and we promote your content to your desired community with embed the ‘good’ embedded for extra engagement. We take the cost risk on the marketing and you only pay when a lead is generated. Pricing goes from $60 CPL, and varies depending on number of touches (e.g. want the prospect to engage with 1 asset or 2) and the level of targeting (e.g. we can work from industry profile targeting or be very ABM targeted and work to a specific account list).
-
For any customer putting a budget into a Cleo campaign, it is important to note that this budget is committed at the outset of the project on whatever the 'good' activity is.
With the 'good' delivered up front, we then apply a six-month claim window from the end of the campaign to allow for your audience to maximise their engagement with the campaign.
-
It is important to ensure that the claimant limit for each campaign is clearly stated in the promotional description. For example, the promotion could be limited to the first 100 people to attend a webinar. For some promotions, there might be a higher redemption rate than this.
At Cleo, as a part of the verification process, we will track this information and work with our clients to determine whether to extend the promotion to the additional claimants or to communicate the closure of the promotion instead.
-
The client brand receives the official certificate for each programme that's been invested in. This comes across in an email from Cleo to confirm the good commitment has been delivered. Each individual who took part in the campaign and completed the desired marketing action receives a digital NFT certificate in their Cleo wallet to reflect the fact that some marketing good was delivered on their behalf, and that it was sponsored by the vendor.
-
Cleo as a system utilises the polygon network to help provide scalability, transparency and the ability to issue users a completion certificate in the form of a NFT. As a user of the system, you do not need to know anything about blockchain or even have to buy tokens to run a campaign. All front-end operations are in your local currency. So you can receive all the benefits of the blockchain, without any of the barriers.
For Individual Cleo Users
-
You have two options:
Through a pre-verified route set by a Cleo client brand. Sometimes, a client brand’s sales and marketing process means they can verify your involvement in their campaign directly with you. In this instance, we can set up your account directly in the Cleo platform (if you’re a new customer). We will then credit your reward into your Cleo wallet.
Sometimes, when a marketing campaign requires you to complete a marketing action that qualifies for a Cleo reward (e.g. attend a webinar), you can use a dedicated Cleo campaign link to make the claim yourself. This might require you to answer some simple qualifying questions that provide the client brand with a little more information about you. If you’re a first time Cleo user, you’d also need to set up your Cleo account, which is a very simple process.
-
In phase 2 (within the next 3 months) you’ll be able to execute a good from within the platform using your debit card. This means you’ll be able to pick your own offset, go carbon net zero and even ‘gift a good’ using Cleo.
-
A carbon offset represents a reduction or removal of one metric tonne of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere that is used to compensate for emissions that occur elsewhere.
Carbon offsets can be generated by the reduction or removal of any greenhouse gas (GHG) known to cause climate change, but carbon dioxide is used as the point of reference because it is the most common GHG in the atmosphere and remains in the climate system for a very long time.
-
The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve. Rimba Raya represents the highest quality carbon offset programme, meeting all 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which strive to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Their project generates carbon credits through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (known as REDD+). The calculation of Rimba Raya carbon credits is based on several factors, including:
Baseline emissions: This is the estimated level of greenhouse gas emissions that would have occurred in the absence of the project. It is calculated based on historical data on deforestation and degradation rates in the project area.
Project emissions: This is the actual level of greenhouse gas emissions during the project period, which is measured through satellite imagery, ground-based measurements, and other monitoring tools.
Leakage: This is the potential for emissions to occur outside the project boundary, for example, if deforestation is displaced to nearby areas. Leakage is estimated and accounted for in the carbon credit calculation.
Additionality: This is the requirement that the project must result in emissions reductions that are additional to what would have occurred in the absence of the project.
Once these factors have been taken into account, the project generates carbon credits that represent one tonne of CO2 equivalent emissions that have been avoided through the project. These carbon credits can then be sold to companies or individuals who wish to offset their own greenhouse gas emissions. The Rimba Raya project is verified by independent third-party auditors to ensure that the carbon credits generated are real, additional, permanent, and measurable.

This is Second Life, who kickstart circular plastic supply chains that clean oceans and return plastics back into the supply chain for reuse and recycling. They are the world’s first Verra certified ocean plastic recovery and recycling project, supported by global brands, engaged in local impact. Their work saw them remove 2 million tonnes of ocean plastic last year.

This is Eden Reforestation. Eden's mission is to plant millions of trees, restore degraded forests and lift people out of poverty through sustainable employment. They have 280 projects across ten countries, including Nepal, Haiti, Mozambique, Madagascar, Ethipia, Kenya, Indonesia, The Philippines, Honduras and Brazil.
Something important to note. Some organisations promote the planting of trees, but are merely scattering millions of seeds. Often, the proportion of seeds growing into mature trees is negligible. Eden, on the other hand, plants millions of actual trees every month, native trees that are supposed to be there.
-
With our partner Eden Reforestation Projects, we plant 50% of trees across the world in Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar and Mozambique. One of the projects in Madagascar plant over 2 million mangroves per month! The other 50% will be planted in Nepal which is one of the least developed countries in the world with many communities depending on the natural environment for food, shelter, and income.
Our target for this year is to plant 1 million trees on behalf of our community.

Verra is a non-profit organisation founded in 2007. Verra supports climate action and sustainable development through the development and management of standards, tools and programs that credibly, transparently and robustly assess environmental and social impacts, and drive funding for sustaining and scaling up these benefits.
They have pioneered the measurement of quality assurance in voluntary carbon markets and manage the world’s leading voluntary carbon markets program, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. They're also involved in other sustainability programmes, like the Plastic Waste Removal Standard.
For Cleo Marketing Agency Partners
-
Yes! We actually built Cleo with agencies in mind. We have a partner who is managing the agencies for us, to make sure they are properly supported. Our go-to-market model includes a provision for each agency’s time. Contact us and we’ll start your journey as an agency partner.
Cleo’s Technology
-
The Cleo app is built on the Polygon blockchain and allows users to execute the good, with the token working in the background to move transactions around the Cleo blockchain environment. The token is essentially a way to convey value through the platform. You can find out more about the $CLEO token in our Discord community - join here.
-
Cleo is built on the blockchain. The benefit to this is transparency from end to end (every transaction is recorded on an open ledger that is available for public scrutiny), speed of execution and affordability.
The blockchain we leverage is called Polygon, which is a layer 2 solution that runs alongside the ethereum blockchain. It allows for smart contracts to be formulated and agreed upon rapidly, thereby automating what might be otherwise slow and inefficient processes.
Since 2022, the Polygon network has been carbon neutral while also offsetting the historical emissions of the whole network.
-
Embracing the blockchain for its speed, scalability and transparency, it makes sense to issue completion certificates in the form of an immutable certificate stored on the blockchain. These are more commonly know as NFTs or non-fungible tokens.
We have a selection of pre-designed NFTs to use in campaigns or we can work with you to design brand/campaign-specific NFTs.
-
Each NFT is essentially a ‘receipt’ for a good being performed. The metadata is publicly available on an open ledger. This corresponds to the partner’s ledger of the total good executed. So we will be the most transparent project on the market, and any user can audit us at any time.
